Description

Class of 1964
President James J. Ryan
Vice-President David J. Gerber
Secretary-Treasurer James H. Hoar
The Class of 1964 is a cosmopolitan group, even international. Seven
graduates are from the East Coast
States and another from Mexico
City. This is the largest eastern
group to be given degrees in any one
year. One hundred eight of the
class have attended college without
interruption since enrolling in September, 1960. The Quint-Cities is
home for forty-two seniors, of these
twenty-one have attended continuously for four years. Sixteen of
the twenty-one Chicagoans have
traveled through the four years together. Of the total number of seniors eighty-one are from Illinois and
fifty-four are from Iowa. The East
Coast Seniors have made their presence felt by the formation of the
East Coast Club. Seniors have been
active in the political arena. Harry
Flynn (N. Y.) was elected Vice
Chairman of the Iowa Young Republicans. Bill Gluba was elected National Committeeman of the Young
Democrats Clubs of Iowa. The Class
of 1964 was represented in athletic
contests by Dan McClinmon in
track, Ray Baladad and David Killian in tennis.
One Great Year.' Lent to Commencement
(Continued from page 158)
missing those who found the going
a bit too rugged.
Intramurals kept the gym occupied
at all times, except when classes
and the varsity team preempted it.
(Activities section)
Lent began early, February 12.
Not forgetting the Ash Wednesday
"admonition," "Remember man that
you are dust, and into dust you will
return," most Ambrosians arose early
daily to attend Mass. Retreat opened
Sunday evening, February 16, and
closed with Mass on Wednesday.
The Rev. Ryan Clancey C. P. was
in charge of the Senior and Junior
classes, and Rev. Terrence OToole
C. P. instructed the Sophomore and
Freshmen groups. As a unit we were
removed from the mundane and
sighted the divine.
Several major events came in
March. First, the Sophomores faced
the National Sophomore Tests on
March 2. Second, the OAKS staff
looked at the well ringed "10" on
their calendar. Deadline! Of course
we made it! Third, came March 17
with a full roster of Irish and near-
Irish to keep Saint Patrick's feast
day. Fourth, intensive practices were
held for the Merry Widow and the
tennis and track teams. Fifth, the
necessary mid-term exams were
completed March 25. On March
22 was the usual blessing of the
palms in the lower chapel, the
procession moved out of doors,
around, and into the main Chapel,
followed by Mass. Lastly, that
sweet Easter recess! Winter was
over, the crocus bloomed by the
south wall of Ambrose.
April First excitement was high
because the Merry Widow was to
be staged at the Masonic Temple
that next weekend. Parents' Weekend scheduled for the same date
brought many visitors.
Immediately the May graduates
settled down to GR exams on April
9 and 10.
Traditional spring social events
include; the Cotillion, the third production of Theatre III, NFCCS
spring congress, Campus Day for
incoming freshmen, and Field Day
on Ascension Thursday 7 May. The
Seniors claim the second weekend
of May for their super events: dance,
dinner, picnic and special awards
to outstanding Ambrosians.
Again the school year closes with
the Baccalaureate Mass at Sacred
Heart Cathedral and Commencement on our Campus May 31, 1964.
For an ever increasing number of
men, study will be continued with
the summer session. Approximately
twenty of the Class of 1964 will
receive their degrees 31 July. Thus
ends the college year of 1963-1964.
