Description

Class of 1965
President Daniel Deninger
Vice-President William Vensel
Secretary-Treasurer Timothy Ponsonby
The Class of 1965 is not unlike the
other classes at Saint Ambrose College, except that only twenty-one
are from other than midwestern
states and these are from the East
Coast. This heavily midwestern
class has seventy-one Quint-Cities
students and fifty from other Iowa
communities. Seventy-two originate
from the cities and countryside
throughout Illinois, in addition there
are the twenty-one from Chicago.
The other Mississippi Valley States
contribute ten students.
These Juniors are well known on
campus because they do participate
in every organization of the college.
The Ambrosian News editor is Ken
Wolf. John Simmons accompanies
the combined chorus of St. Ambrose
and Marycrest, and Walt Jones was
named to the Midwest Catholic All
American Basketball team.

campus was quiet as students returned to their homes to relax from
studying and swap stories.
The basketball team had but a
brief respite and the long awaited
season began up at St. Thomas on
November 30. The Bees faced a
twenty-one game schedule, which
would end with the Loras game.
Theatre III opened its second production, "The Time of Your Life,"
on Thursday, December 5, for a
four day run. (Activities Section)
On Sunday, December 8, Kappa
Delta Pi, (Honorary Education Fraternity), held its initiation for five
new members. This was the first
new group to be admitted to membership since the installation of the
Chapter last May 22, by Dr. R.
Ryder of Purdue University.
Traditionally the Christmas spirit
arrived on campus with the month of
December. Each dormitory became
a display of blinking lights and trees.
The College Center added both the
tinsel and the creche of the Christmas Holidays.
Parties for the children at St.
Vincent's and the College Christmas
Dance were the major collective
"fun" events, but the bustle of preparation for vacation was sobered by
careful attention to instructions for
term papers and the several inevitable pre-Christmas exams. Such a
struggle to squeeze in shopping.
Sunday, December 15, attention
was turned to the Marycrest Campus
for the annual December concert.
The presentation of the choral opera,
"The Unicorn, the Gorgon and the
Manticore," by Gian Carlo Menotti,
was offered by the St. Ambrose
Chorus and the Marycrest Chorale.
In addition, "Home for the Holidays" filled the air, and by five
o'clock, December 20, the campus
was forlornly quiet. For upperclassmen this was the rest for which
they had been waiting, for freshmen,
something new, but really liked.
After a little studying, a lot of
fun, many parties, and little relaxation, we returned on January 5. The
flag was back at full staff, the period
of official mourning had ended December 22. With the feast of Epiphany we knew that Christmas was
over.
A serious attitude prevailed as
semester exams approached. Lights
burned in rooms until late at night,
people were cramming, and everyone was nervous. Sweat! Worry! No
hours! But this hectic week was followed by the "semester break," and
a chance to start again on Monday
morning, February 3, joined by a
few new students and inevitably
