AMERICAN ASSOCIATION OF UNIVERSITY
PROFESSORS
Initiates An Academic Self-Study
Initiation of an academic self-
study, this sums up the significant
program of the St. Ambrose Chapter
of the American Association of University Professors in the 1963-1964
school year. The academic self-
examination was begun in two ways:
1) two speakers, experts in their subjects, were brought in to give us
new insight into two areas: religion
and administration; 2) a self-study
evaluation form was given to every
faculty member and each faculty
member was also interviewed personally so as to get views not otherwise reflected by the written form.
These were then tabulated.
Father David Stanley, S.J., of the
faculty of the School of Religion,
State University of Iowa, Iowa City
was the first speaker on the implementation program. At a meeting
open to the public he discussed "The
Role of Theology in a Liberal Arts
College.,, Dr. Conrad Bergendorff,
former president of Augustana College, spoke at the spring meeting
on "The Role of the Administrator
in a Liberal Arts College."
The first report meeting on the
self-study project was held on March
17, 1964. A statistical evaluation of
data will be completed before September.
Mr. Critchlow, Mr. Norton, Mr. Resnick and Dr. McMahon discuss Association policy.
