K. E. CLUB
The beginning of the K. E. Club activities was coincident with the opening of school.
Considering the various reestablished organizations of St. Ambrose College, we find
this fraternal society the most active.
The first meeting was held soon after the opening date of school. It was strictly a
business meeting and the time was devoted to the election of officers and the outlining
of a course of action for the current year. Rev. T. C. Donohue, philosophy instructor,
was unanimously chosen as faculty adviser for the club. A few weeks later, with the
opening of Davis Hall, a new club room greeted the students and received the sincere
approval of everyone. The rooms are well equipped and afford many facilities which
are necessary for a conventional organization and which heretofore were unknown to
the members of this society.
This year the K. E. Club was composed entirely of philosophy students. It has for
its eminent design "the promotion of good fellowship among the upper class-men of the
College department." The organization, however, does not confine its activities solely
to this purpose. Many projects which have been offered as conducive to the well-being
of the College have received the hearty cooperation of the K. E. Club. The Quarterly
Ambrosian, which became a reality this year, has been the principal subject of discussion at the meetings for the past two years. Every member was interested and willing
to contribute support to the enterprise to the utmost of his ability; hence we find a
number of our members as leaders of the Ambrosian Staff.
The K. E. Club holds regular bi-monthly meetings; the first is for the purpose of
transacting business matters, the other is a social affair. During winter months various
programs were arranged for the entertainment of the members. Numerous field trips
were made in the Spring months and they were found to be beneficial as well as entertaining. Near the close of each school year an annual outing is held. This consists of
an all day cruise down the Mississippi River—an event always looked forward to as the
outstanding feature of the scholastic year.
During the past year the K. E. Club has been more prosperous than ever before.
The fact that the membership was limited did not hinder progress in the least, and the
old proverbial quotation "great things come from small packages" may justly be applied to this organization. It is regrettable that at the close of the present year the
club will lose some of the men who were instrumental in its organization, but we feel
assured that with the initiation of a number of new members the club will continue in
the future with the same vigor that has characterized its activities during the last three
years.
