lads tasted the sting of defeat in the opener by the score of 30 to 2. Injuries to
Captain Bouquot and John Collins compelled these two veterans to remain at home,
which greatly crippled the Saint outfit.
The battering attacks of the giant sized Upper Iowa eleven wore the light Saints
down after they had played them to a standstill for three quarters, and the visitors
romped away with a 12 to 0 victory on LeClaire Field in the second contest. The
Blue and White showed a great improvement over their first game and were determined to end the season without another blemish on their slate.
The third game found the Saints in Chicago with the lineup shifted considerably
and with all injured men back in the lineup. The Ambrosians were not given an outside chance to win over the well trained Loyola University team; but after the smoke
of battle cleared away, the Iowa lads walked off the gridiron with a 7 to 0 victory to
their credit over the highly touted Windy City eleven.
With luck swinging their way the Ambrosians again turned the trick on the local lot,
this time at the expense of Central College, by the score of 8 to 6. The game was a
hard, rough battle, and the local collegians showed a world of improvement over their
previous contests.
Packing their grips, the Saints journeyed to Quincy, Illinois, where they easily
swamped the Quincy College crew 18 to 3.
With the stands crowded with old grads and stars of the gridiron of days gone by,
the Ambrosians took the powerful Campion College eleven into camp by the score of
26 to 19 in the first Homecoming celebration ever held at the local school. Ability to
take advantage of every break in the early stages of the game helped materially in the
local victory.
With injuries again forcing several of the regulars to hug the sidelines, the Des
Moines Still College team snatched a 13 to 0 victory from the crippled Saints in the
last game of the season.
Taking things all in all, the Blue and White hung up a good record, and the athletes that toiled on the gridiron can well be complimented upon the wonderful showing they put up against more experienced and much heavier teams. Result—four
victories, three defeats for a percentage of .571. Not so bad?
