Description
To commemorate the Centennial of St. Ambrose College,
senior Matthew Metzgar wrote and arranged a piece of
music entitled "Centum Magnum." This piece was performed during the Recessional of the Centennial Commencement ceremony. Forty-five years ago another student
collaborated on a piece of music for St. Ambrose. In 1937,
the college held a school anthem contest. Of all the lyrics
submitted, senior William Kerrigan's "Ambrosian Oaks"
were chosen. Father Cletus Madsen then arranged them to
the tune of "Finlandia" by Sibelius and this new Alma
Mater piece was performed during graduation ceremonies
that year. Below are the "Ambrosian Oaks" lyrics.

WHAT MIGHTY DEEDS YOU
KNOW —
OUR HEARTS FAIR SHRINE
AH! STILL MORE DEAR YOU
GROW.
WHAT WHITE AND BLUE HAS
WROUGHT,
