Description
Men's
The St. Ambrose men's basketball team closed out its
1983-84 season at 12-16 after falling to the high-flying
Marycrest Eagles 116-88.
First-year Coach Ray Shovlain said the staff and fans
can look to the future with optimism thanks to a strong
recruiting effort.
Several injury problems were considered largely
responsible for the Bees' failure to register a third consecutive winning season.
Shovlain said he wanted to lay the groundwork for a
disciplined program and he believed this had been
achieved.
"Also, we finished fairly close to .500 while playing a
tough schedule, the latter half with only eight players ...
Twelve and 16 isn't too bad considering we played
Creighton, Loras, Marycrest and Mount Mercy, so you're
talking eight games against extremely tough teams."
Shovlain cited the come-from-behind overtime victory
(80-69) against Wartburg College of Waverly, Iowa, in
which the Bees trailed by 14 at the half, and the first
contest against Marycrest — a 76-74 loss — as among
the season's highlights.
Is this Swan Lake? Ask Robert Wordlow (40).
