Let's each take half.
The St. Ambrose football team under Coach John Furlong posted
a 7 - 3 -1 record for 1983, the best since the "glory days" of the fifties.
Furlong said the program still is developing and that winning will
come with experience. He said the players have the potential to
continue to improve and he hopes the team can achieve an undefeated season soon through the progress of current players and the
acquisition of talented newcomers.
Furlong said much credit for the team's success belongs to running back Bob Jurevitz, who finished his sophomore season with
1,300 yards on 201 carries.
Five members of the Fighting Bees were named to the NAIA
All-District 15 team: John Frederic (J.F.) Green, a senior wide
receiver from Pleasant Valley, Iowa; Jurevitz, from Port Byron, III.;
Paul Pollard, sophomore middle guard from Chicago, III.; Dick Valentine, sophomore defensive back from Dubuque, Iowa; and his
twin brother Doug, a sophomore linebacker, also Dubuque.
