Special
BREVITY is the soul of wit, but not of composition. However,
we must make the best of it, for space forbids a lengthy and
detailed account of the Special Class or its individual members. Measured by numbers, it is true, we are small, but by
accomplishments, we demonstrate the fact that good things
come in small packages.
We receive the title of Special Class, from the character of the course
each is pursuing. Chemistry seems to be the favorite subject of research.
Supan, Flynn, Seupple and Judge are devoting their time to that science.
The former three are busily engaged in determining, among other questions found in the study of Organic Chemistry, the formula of a make-believe sugar for use in our morning coffee. Judge has not yet found why
he cannot remake a dime after dissolving it in nitric acid to obtain metallic
silver. Sheehan is wrapt up in Caesar's armies of manouver. Malone has
nearly worked out a fourth dimension in Geometry. Coonan has discovered
a means of eliminating a Trial Balance.
In sports, the Class is well represented, Sheehan and Coonan participating in three, Flynn in two, and Judge and Malone in one. Supan is our tennis mentor, while Seupple excells in the indoor sport of "Rummy." We also
boast of two Varsity coaches, Sheehan piloting the baseball team, and
Coonan the basketball five.
We would like to say that next year we will all be with you again
some will, it is true, but Uncle Sam has set a call for several of us to do our
bit "over there," and it won't be long till Billy Quigley will greet us in training camp. We will be with you, however, in spirit.
With unanimous sincerity we wish the Faculty, the readers, the Staff
and all those who contributed toward making the Ambrosian the success
that it is, good luck and all that attends it.
