Description
Spring
The stars are fading in the morning sky.
The East is touched with tints of golden hue,
The moon sails swiftly to her western home,
The fleecy clouds float in a sea of blue.
The dew-kissed flowers lift their sleepy heads
And greet the dawn by nodding to and fro,
The budding leaves are wakened by the wind
That sings its morning song so sweet and low.
The golden robin pipes his matin call,
And routs the tiny snow bird from his home,
The air is filled with floods of joyous song,
From break of day until the hour of gloam.
With shouts of joy doth Nature greet the time
When rushing waters wash the mountain sides,
When gurgling streams go racing to the sea,
When in the north defeated Winter hides.
America, a paradise, art thou!
Thy verdant robe all others far transcends,
For South comes north and North fades fast away
When Springtime on the valleys fair descends.
