Description
Bury me with jugs of water, streaming hot about my feet.
Bury me in twenty blankets, tell my friends "Omit the flowers."
Put no marble slab above me, all I want is lots of heat.
I am freezing, Ziggy, freezing! Other roomers suffer too;
I am coughing, puffing, wheezing, like a man whose race is through.
I have made my share of errors, but I'm not afraid to die,
For hot Hades holds no terrors for a gent as cold as I,
Ziggy, after I have frozen, and my earthly race is run.
Punished well for having come here from dear old Fort Madison,
Move to that mild Southern city, where the cold is not severe;
And reflect at times with pity on the yap that perished here.
Pray for me when I have vanished with my gooseflesh and my cough
To a place where cold is banished—there I will be better off.
Ziggy, what's that noise I'm hearing? No! It cannot be a dream.
Holy Smokes! The gods have saved us—By my halidom! It's Steam.
Fitz: "I suppose you always let Bob have the last word ?"
Tarn.: "Yes, and I am tickled to death when he gets it."
TEN COMMANDMENTS FOR THOSE WHO DWELL HEREIN
I
Thou shalt obey the faculty—thy instructors; and shall keep an ear
open when they speak.
II
Thou shalt not "rough house" in the private rooms, or in any way misconduct thyself, for the faculty, thy instructors are zealous instructors,
visiting thy iniquities upon thy head even to the third and fourth floor.
Ill
Thou shalt not "sass" thy instructors, for they will not hold them guiltless who sasseth them.
IV
Remember thy definitions, work all thy problems, lest thou waste thy
labor thereon.
V
Remember the smoking rule, that thy privileges may be long in the
school.
VI
Thou shalt NOT be late for chapel.
VII
Thou shalt not toast thy shins against the radiators in the corridors
nor sit in the windows.
VIII
Thou shalt not pony.
IX
Thou shalt not tattle against thy neighbor lest his friends impose hands
on thee.
X
Thou shalt not envy thy neighbors pull, neither shalt thou desire his
high marks, labor diligently, maybe thou also canst get a pull.
