Description
At Fairfield: Parsons vs. St. Ambrose. After a bitterly contested game
the count stood 7 to 3 in favor of the Fairfield lads. The contest was
featured by the lack of acquaintance with football technique on the part
of the officials. Discouraged but not disheartened, the Blue and White
eleven went to work to wipe out the three black marks already marring
the schedule.
At Kankakee, 111.: St. Viator's vs. St. Ambrose. A brighter day for the
Ambrosians dawned. The "Jones Special" baffled the Viatorians and the
final count was 45-14. Captain Devlin's dropkicks were also a feature of
that game.
At Davenport, HOMECOMING DAY, Nov. 3: St. Ambrose vs. Dubuque.
The Dubuque cadets, the keen rivals of the Ambrosians, took the count that
memorable day. Neither they nor any opponent after them carried the
pigskin across the Blue and White goal. The day was ideal. The victory
was ours by a seventeen point margin. The old Grads, as well as the present students, cheered their Alma Mater team with the true and loyal Ambrosian spirit.
At Davenport: Graceland College vs. St. Ambrose. This team had an
enviable record in the "show me" state. But in the encounter with the
Ambrosian machine they lost all their prestige as gridiron artists. The
score was 46-0.
At Des Moines: Highland Park College vs. St. Ambrose. The grand
finale of the season took place at the capital city on k>wa. Nov. 19. The
victory over Highland Park on that day was the valedictory encounter for
at least eight of the Ambrosian regulars, and honorably did they acquit
themselves.
To Captain Quigley and his cohorts, we express the wish that the Blue
and White squad of '18 will be the "greatest of them all."
