1906
'06. Twelve years ago Father Thos. P. Murphy left St. Ambrose College, where he had served as professor for several years, to take the pastorate of St. Mary's, Guthrie Center, in western Iowa. Here and at Panora,
his out mission, Father Murphy has built two churches and, in strongly
Protestant communities, has gathered up congregations to fill them. Such
accomplishments remind us that, amid the strenuous efforts to prepare an
Army for war, the divinely commissioned officers are laboring as ever in the
great Army of Peace for the glory of the One True King.
1902
'02. Cupid's shaft again. In the autumn of 1917 Charles Conway was
married to Miss Anna Grady of Albia, Iowa, a graduate of the St. Joseph
Academy of the Religious of the Sacred Heart, St. Joseph, Mo., and of the
State Normal School, Cedar Rapids, Iowa. Congratulations!
1901
'01. The Mack brothers, Joseph C. and Edward went out to Montana
seven years ago. They have built homes in the prosperous Northwest and
were instrumental in bringing the K. of C. Council 1508 to Lewiston, Montana. Joseph, in a recent letter, expressed the wish that they might set
more Ambrosians, especially priests, doing God's work, in that state. His
letter was accompanied by a copy of the Lewiston Catholic Monthly, which
gives evidence of the Church activities in that strongly Catholic section.
1900
'00. Father John T. Noonan, former student and professor at St.
Ambrose College, who has been honored by the Iowa Knights of Columbus
with the office of State Chaplain, offered prayer at the Washington Birthday Celebration, held in Des Moines under the auspices of the Fourth
Degree Knights of Columbus. Gov. W. L. Harding and Hon. Quinn O'Brien
were the principle speakers of the evening, Rev. S. J. Mulvihill of Clinton,
also an alumnus of St. Ambrose College, was present at this meeting.
1895
'95. Attorney F. A. Cooper, practising lawyer of this city, has been
appointed member of the Iowa State Council of Defence by Governor Harding.
1889
'89. The Very Rev. F. P. McManus, a Davenport boy who graduated
from the Classical Course in 1889, has been for some years Pastor of St.
Francis Xavier Church, Sixth Street and Fifth Avenue, Council Bluffs. He
writes he is trying to do his mite for God, his country and for humanity.
