The Oaks
Serene, steadfast,
Anchored in time,
They have been built up-
These leaf-screened hostels-
For creatures of air and earth.
At a century turning
And now, as if forever,
They stand.
Gnarled, twisted, scarred
By wind, sun, rain
Andthe tempers of man-
Set exalted,
Reaching, for sky and space
from, deep roots, nurturing
Present with past,
Sealed in the hope of tomorrow.
They shall endure,
for He has set His Love upon them:
These sky-arched colonnades,
These oaken- covenants
With God.
