Description
Up, up and away sails Joe Ripslinger at the Augustana Open.
In it's second year of revitalization, the track team showed
some improvement in both personal performance and overall team
performance.
Senior sprinter and the team's most valuable player, Kevin Rose
highlighted his season with his best 100 yard dash with a time of
10.1, placing him third in the Loras Invitational. In the indoor
season Rose took third in the 300 yard dash at the Coe College
Invitational.
Sophomore, and team captain, Joe Ripslinger, again led the
team with his superior jumping ability. Ripslinger's season best
high jump, 6'5" enabled him to take first place at the Loras Invitational and Grinnel's Morgan Taylor Relays. The sophomore also
took high honors in both the long and triple jump as well as running in the 440 relay.
Three newcomers to the team who showed excellent performances were Bill McDonald, Rich Adam and Dan Donnelly. McDonald, an outstanding high jumper, leaped 6'5" placing first at
the Coe College Invitational. Adam placed well in the 300 and
220 yard dashes, as well as the long jump and 440 yard relay.
Donnelly ran a leg in the 440 yard relay which placed at Grinnell.
Other members of the team include Joe Glimco, Kevin Jansen,
and J. O. Johnson.
The major highlight of the season was the 440 yard relay team
of Johnson, Rose, Ripslinger and Adam qualifying for the Drake
relays.
