1978 was the ultimate re-building year for
the St. Ambrose football team.
Under a new coach, former high school and
college star Keith Schroeder, the Bees compiled
a 3-5 season record in their second year of
inter-collegiate football.
John Osweiler, the only graduating senior,
was voted most valuable player by his teammates. There were 14 juniors, 15 sophomores
and 18 freshmen on this year's roster.
Wins over Marquette, Lor as, and Iowa Wes-
lyn highlighted the season. Two other games
were extremely close for the team.
After the last game of the season, Schroeder
knew what direction the St. Ambrose football
team was headed: "I'm going after the best talent in the Quad Cities. That's our primary concern right now—Where we are going to be next
year.
