ALUMNI ASSOCIATION

The school year, 1949-50, was one of the
most eventful in the thirty-six year history of
the St. Ambrose College Alumni Association.
The Homecoming celebration was one of the
finest ever produced, and the association is
grateful to the Student Council and to the student body for their excellent program. The
largest group of homecomers on record was
present for the week-end. In addition to the
fine response of alumni to student activities, the
old grads proceeded to make a few changes of
their own. The attendance at the Alumni Homecoming Dance was the largest in memory with
some 250 couples present. A good crowd appeared for the special meeting and the annual
business meeting which were followed by
luncheon in the gym. After the game an even
greater number returned for the evening smorgasbord.
The most outstanding accomplishments of
the association for the year were: the revision
of the constitution to provide for the election of
O-ficers by ballot, the appointment of a full time
executive secretary with an office at the college, the inauguration of a monthly eight page
paper, The Ambrosian Alumnus, the assignment of executive committee posts to key
alumni in concentrations of alumni throughout
two states, and the initiation of the living endowment fund. The chairman of this initial
alumni drive was Thomas D. Murphy, manager
of the Davenport office of the Crane Company,
and a former St. Ambrose football star.
