Description

FIELD DAY ACTIVITIES

In the ping pong tournament, Burke Dailey
once again proved his proficiency by smashing
to victory in the singles competition. In the
doubles tournament, Bill Conneely teamed with
Dailey. This pair was invincible in its quest
for the championship. Ping pong has become
very popular with a number of students. For
the singles competition there were 120 entries,
and in order to have a well-regulated tournament, the boys were placed in three divisions:
the Church department, MacAuley Hall, and
Off-On Campus.

In March, the winners of the various tournaments traveled to Loras College for the third
annual extramural competition. St. Ambrose,
St. Joseph's, St. Norbert's, and Loras were represented at this tournament. The part-time Bee
sportsters, after winning first place in '48 and
second place in '49, found the going a little too
tough this year and finished fourth.
All in all, it was another great year for intramural activities at St. Ambrose, where
student participation in athletics is one of the
largest in the country.
