St. Ambrose College Debate Club
The St. Ambrose College Debate Club
provides its members with valuable experience in both public speaking and
practical thinking. The national topic of
debate this year, relevant to contemporary political and economic affairs; was
resolved: "that the federal government
should guarantee to all U.S. citizens a
minimum annual cash income." Teams
representing St. Ambrose participated
in debates on this topic held at schools
throughout the Midwest, including the
University of Omaha Oct. 26-28, Wisconsin State University Dec. 8-9, William Jewell (Liberty, Mo.) Jan. 12-13, University
of Iowa Feb. 9-10, University of Nebraska
Feb. 22-24, and the University of Wisconsin Mar. 8-9.
In addition to participation in intercollegiate debate, the Club also sponsors
a high school speech contest held in the
Spring, drawing teams from the entire
area.
