Phi Eta Sigma
On December 11, 1967, the
installation of the St. Ambrose
chapter of Phi Eta Sigma gave new
impetus to academic endeavor.
Having for it's motto: KNOWLEDGE IS POWER, Phi Eta Sigma
was established in 1923 at the
University of Illinois as a national honor society for students
who have maintained a 3.5 average during their freshman year.
Every new member is awarded a
gold key and a membership certificate plus a two-year subscription to FORUM, the fraternity
magazine. A member is also eligible to apply for the Founders
Fund Scholarship.
Following an initiation ceremony and dinner, Msgr. Menke
and Grand Secretary, Dean James
E. Foy, Auburn University delivered speeches of commendation.
The relevance of Phi Eta Sigma to
the campus was well stated by
Msgr. Menke when he said: "to
use our knowledge for constructive purposes toward the betterment of society and for its members to serve as an example for
the rest of the student body."
