With but three lettermen returning from
last year's mediocre basketball team, the
outlook for the '40-'4l season was not too
bright. However, with the aid of several
fine freshman prospects, St. Ambrose's five
compiled a record of 13 wins against 7
defeats to make Jim Dockery's first campaign at St. Ambrose a success.
Don Conroy, Iowa Conference scoring
champ, Jack Giroux and Stan Sosnouski
supplied the Saints with the necessary
scoring punch while Bob Carton, honorary
captain and captain elect of next year's
cage outfit, and John Sweeney spearheaded the defensive work.
After winning early season games over
the tough Dubuque team, conference titl-
ists, Simpson, always a good team, and
Loras, Ambrose's potential rival, everyone
regarded the Bees as a strong team and
expected them to cop the loop crown.
The Bees had an eighteen game conference
schedule and with a strong start, fans began to take notice of Jim Dockery's
