MANNING CLUB
The Manning Club, an exclusively ecclesiastical organization of St. Ambrose College, is one of the oldest groups on the campus. It was organized when St. Ambrose
was strictly a seminary for the purpose of preparing priests for the Davenport diocese.
The purpose of the club, as outlined in its constitution, is to stimulate interest among
the ecclesiastical students in all forensic activities. It is designed to assist the student
in speaking and debating by offering him real speech situations before the club members. Bi-weekly meetings are held to accomplish this objective.
The Manning Club has Its own recreation room in one wing of Ambrose Hall which
is equipped with a cabinet radio and a special library. It also has its private refectory. It is an affiliate of the National Council of Catholic Men of Washington, and,
as such, has presented a series of transcribed radio addresses by the Right Reverend
Fulton J. Sheen. The club distinguished itself this year by producing two outstanding
radio programs: an original Christmas religious play and a unique 'Voice of the
Liturgy' drama which featured a speaking choir and was designed to promote a fuller
appreciation of the liturgy of the Mass.
The club is well represented In all extra-curricular activities, especially in intramural
athletics.
The Reverend Edward M. O'Connor is faculty advisor of the group.
