Description

The Manning Society
FOR THE LAST few years it has been customary for the philosophy
classes of Saint Ambrose College to organize a society that would
give them an opportunity for discussing some of the topics of
current interest. Ever since the organization of the society it
has been known as the Manning Club.
The officers of the society for the present year are, the following: William Schmidt, president; Hubert Thomann, vice president, and Mell
Morrin, secretary. The success with which this society has been conducted during the past year is largely due to the interest and efforts put forth by the president. He is excellent in debate and set a standard that all sought to emulate.
The many questions of world-wide interest have furnished abundance of material for discussion. Foremost among the debaters on these mighty matters are,
Messrs. Kleinfelder and Bissen, while Prohibition is the pet hobby of George
Millett, who hails from a "dry" territory. Patrick McGuinness, with his great
fund of Irish wit and his naive remarks, often occasioned much merriment.
Mention, too, should be made of Messrs. Morrin, Beecher and Murphy, whose
artistic temperament lent pleasing variety to the demand. The society is justly
pleased with its record of the year and the individual members feel that they have
profited much in the time given to this branch of school activities.
