Description

In the Fall of 1974, St. Ambrose College initiated a
revolutionary idea in campus security. Instead of the ordinary
"off-campus" contractual guard force, (Per Mar), St. Ambrose
elected to govern and police its own campus. Mr. Edward
Rogalski, Vice President for administration and student
purposes conceptualized the idea of using students to man
and maintain a security force that ensures the safety of the
students, the protection of campus property, and the
prevention of criminal activities.
With the aid of the local police department the idea was
molded and modeled into an effective security force. The
student body respects, co-operates with, and takes pride in the
student-run force. The effectiveness of such a force is
evidenced by a recovery percentage of 63%. College campuses
throughout the country have inquired and shown interest in
our idea of campus security. At St. Ambrose, the student guards
not only benefit by acquiring practical experience in their
aspiring field, but the students of St. Ambrose benefit because
their peers are protecting their rights and privileges.
