Description

CALENDAR
SEPTEMBER
9—School reopens.
10—Students continue to come. A fairly good number present for supper. Seems natural to be
back again. Henry arrives at an unusually late hour; brings brother with him. Second
floor kept lively until 11:30 p.m.
11—Delegations from Tampico and DeWitt arrive. The latter town sends Prof. Boyle, who
takes charge of the shorthand class. Code is kept busy getting acquainted, especially with
the DeWitt boys.
12—Prefect of Studies' office takes on an aspect similar to that of a mob meeting. Classes assigned. Solemn High Mass chanted by Rev. President. The choir sang so nice, that nearly
all eyes were fixed on them. Benediction at 8:30. Everybody is supposed to go to bed
early tonight.
13—Classes begin. Prefects appointed. Dutch holds the dignity of First Prefect.
14—New ruling for college men announced. Off until 5:30 every Wednesday and Saturday.
Another big crowd arrives. Many seem to be stunned; probably the high buldings are
the cause. Al Cone and "Ziggy" visit the college, before leaving for Baltimore. Both
look dignified, particularly "Ziggy". Meeting of Sodality held. Officers elected. "Bubbles"
Waters gets job as mail man.
15—Another big crowd. Philosophers ordered to vacate second floor and move into Frat House
at west of building. How cruel since we were all settled and such great pains were taken
to see that the pennants hung evenly.
16—Nothing unusual occurs, at least not to our knowledge.
17—Rain, and lots of it. Henry lets out some pet expressions while going from Frat House
to college for classes.
18—A most interesting lecture given by M. of D. in Chapel. The rules, of course, were read.
All heard them, but did they get them ? We'll watch and see.
19—Big sale of gym shoes and other athletic goods at store. The prices were reasonable,
said some.
20—Operator Kelley starts his movie machine in action and entertains us with F. X. Bushman
in "The Accounting".
21—Rain and cooler today. Rempe plays janitor at Frat House and gives us some heat. The
choir sings again at benediction. Getting ?????*****///.
22—R. Fitzpatrick goes to Mercy Hospital. Places assigned in Chapel and at tables. Casey
joins the Frat House Crew.
23—Rev- President makes several announcements. The older students didn't have to pay very .
close attention. We heard them before. K. of C. members are out after candidates. Louie
Neiters is overly enthusiastic.
24—Big feed on at Frat House after night prayers. Code plays the part of cook and burns the
cabbage. "Dutch" nearly swallowed the soup plate and spoon. Rempe didn't like the
coffee and Henry upset the milk.
25—Everyone is sick at Frat House. Too much festivity.
26—Choir practice held for the" first time. It wasn't exactly necessary.
27—Juniors lose to Cedar Rapids, 25-0. J. Sheppard and "Red" Britt acl as policemen. No
one was arrested, though.
28—K. of C. members off today for initiation. Some of the occupants of the house fail to hear
the first bell. Of course, they were all sick.
29—Much discussion over abdominal tactics. "Belly flogging", to use the old standby.
30—Some more rules read. Is these any end to them? Father Barry home from army.
