Description

HARRY M. McFARLAND

Harry M. McFarland is an alumnus of whose success in life we are gratified to
relate. A graduate of the Commercial Department in 1890, he later attended Iowa
Commercial College of Davenport and, on leaving that institution, obtained a position
as clerk of the C, R. I. and P. Railway. His next office was that of clerk of the
District Court where he served faithfully for many years. Five years ago he became
associated with the Guaranty Life Insurance Company, and has since acted as representative of that firm in Davenport.
For some time he has been a prominent member of both the Knights of Columbus
and the Elks. As District Deputy of the former organization for twelve years, he performed his duties so successfully that he was last year appointed State Deputy. He has
attended many supreme conventions of this great Catholic body, and, at the present
time, has signified his intentions of accompanying the Catholic delegation to Metz,
France, for the dedication of the Lafayette Monument. He was the third of the
fourth degree Knights of Davenport. Among the Elks he has also held high positions,
being now their Past Exalted Ruler. In the near future he is to be a delegate to the
national convention of that lodge at Atlantic City.
During the war Mr. McFarland was a member of the Scott County Council of
Defense and a director of the Red Cross Association. When the soldiers began to
return from the war, he was appointed Chairman of the Committee for the Welcoming
of the Soldiers.
At the present time he is a member of the Board in control of the new Knights of
Columbus school in Davenport. He is also a director of the Davenport Commercial
Club. We are proud of Harry McFarland.
