Description
God Wills It"
"Gain souls, hunt souls, catch souls, court souls, draw souls, pull souls, carry souls,
deliver souls, shelter souls, buy souls!"
"Souls! souls! and nothing but souls! for the love of Jesus, the owner of all souls."
—Fr. Nerincx.
Such is the cry of our missionaries in lands where there are nine hundred millions of
men and women who have never heard that a Savior was born to them. Such is the
desire of the Savior as He longingly looks over the great pagan world; then to Europe,
contributing formerly so generously to the spread of His gospel, but now devastated
and suffering; and finally to America, the land of greatness and plenty. It is to us that
He turns, pleading for us to assume the leadership in spreading His kingdom.
Generously indeed has America responded to this pleading of love by giving assistance, both spiritually and materially, to those who are already working in the distant
field. We are always proud to note that one of these laborers is Rev. Bernard Meyer,
a former Ambrpsian, whose missionary life has done much to increase the mission
spirit in the College. During the past year at least two hundred and forty dollars have
been sent from St. Ambrose for the assistance of Fr. Meyer in his work.
To the former students who have personally known Father Meyer, he sends his best
wishes from Yeung Kong, China. One of his missions is a hundred miles from a railroad and eighty miles from a boat, while the whole district given over to the care of
three or four Maryknoll priests is a little over five thousand square miles.
Still, there are thousands of miles to be traversed, millions of pagans to be converted, millions of dollars and countless missionaries necessary to aid in the realization
of the words of Malachias:
"In every place there is sacrifice, and there is offered to me a clean oblation."
