Like the parts of a tree
Growing into separate
Branches—still growing upward;
But does the tree become more of
A tree
For your growing apart?
My eyes feel sore and my chest
Empty
My mouth dry from knowing my different
Way—
And making my soul as different from my friend's
As the souls of love and selfishness;
And which soul is my soul?
Damn that a man cannot at times be a friend of himself-
For his own truth.
