FACULTY
What do professors do during the summer months? Some
teach, others travel, and some do graduate work or advanced
research. Rev. Carl S. Rice, Ph.D., chairman of the Division of
Natural Sciences and Mathematics, was one of twenty five college and university professors invited to attend the Summer
Institute in Marine Biology at Charleston, Oregon. Sponsored by
the National Science Foundation through the University of Oregon, the Institute covered the taxonomic, morphological, ecolog-
ical,and physiological aspects of marine zoology and botany.
Mr. Shannon Boyd, chairman of the Engineering Department, attended Bucknell University in Lewisburg, Pennsylvania
where he did post graduate work in engineering under a Science
Foundation Scholarship. Mr. Morris Calsyn, Assistant Professor
of Physics, attended a summer conference on the Recent Advances in Astro-geophysics at Georgetown University in Washington, D. C. under a National Science Foundation grant. Dr.
Mary Vinje, Professor of Biology, and her husband, Mr. James
Vinje, did research work for the Mast Development Company on
