Description

As the twentieth century develops
it becomes evident that the truly
modern man is to participate in the
expanding world of people and
things. He can no longer limit his
knowledge and influence to his
immediate surroundings. Our Reverend Edward M. Catich typifies this
modern man for his influence extends to distant lands. He is well
known as an authority in the fields
of early Christian art, paleography,
calligraphy, and art of the catacombs. He has designed chapels,
crucifixes, windows, and stations of
the cross. His most significant work
is THE TRAJAN INSCRIPTION IN
ROME, which he alone researched,
wrote, illustrated, designed, printed
and published.
We are proud of Father Catich,
the "St. Ambrose Phenomenon." He
has served the college as chairman
of the art department since it was
established. It was his honor to
serve as national president of the
Catholic Art Association from 1943
to 1945. Ambrosians will remember
him for his learning and talent, for
his dedication and service, for his
desire for perfection in all that he
does at all times.
With respect and sincerity, the
1963 OAKS is dedicated to Father
Catich.
