St. Ambrose's cross country team,
hampered by a lack of experience
and depth, was able to muster only
one victory. Coach Owens had only
two returning lettermen, Hank Kap-
hiem and Tim Motto, to work with
Freshmen who formed the basis of
the team.
The St. Ambrose harriers showed
steady improvement through the
season. A glance at their various
meet times indicates this. Curran
showed the biggest improvement,
jumping from a time of 20:05
minutes in the first meet to a low of
17:04 against Platteville. Motto and
Kreiter also shaved nearly 3 minutes
off their time in the course of the
year. Lillis was the most consistent
varying between 17:37 and a season
low of 16:34.8.
The improvement can also be
noted in the scores, notably that the
Bees closed with their lone victory
over Coe.
The building season gave Coach
Owens a chance to give his freshmen their baptism to college competition and enabled the Bees to
establish a strong foundation for the
coming year.
Bob Zahlman, Tim Motto, Dave Krieter, Ed Lillis, Dick Wilson, Coach Roy Owen.
