October Brings New Vice-President
Pulitzer Prize play "All the King's
Men." All seats were reserved.
Associated Collegiate Press opened fall convention in Chicago. In
attendance were: Miss Agnes Renner, Adviser; Don Miller, Editor;
Merwin Hart, Art Editor; and
Charles Pirrera, Copy Editor. The
1964 OAKS received a First Class
Honor rating from the Associated
Collegiate Press.
Friday 23 October
Rev. Joseph E. Kokjohn was appointed Vice-President of the College by Bishop Ralph L. Hayes.
Saturday 24 October
Annual fall Parents' Weekend.
NFCCS Fall Fair built around
theme "Voyage to the Bottom of the
Sea."
Sunday 25 October
Forty Hours opened. Litany of the
Saints and Benediction in English.
Friday 30 October
Last day to drop a class without
penalty of "F".
Sunday 1 November
All Saints; No extra free day!
Thursday 5 November
Senator Eugene McCarthy opened
the 1964-65 Lecture Series addressing the audience on "Education of
the Great Electorate." (Senator McCarthy was re-elected by the voters
of Minnesota.)
Friday 6 November
Eighty-second homecoming began
with "Taste of Honey" dance at the
"Col." Jimmy Dorsey's Orchestra
furnished the music. Queen Jackie
Coons received the crown from last
year's queen, Terry Hobson.
Saturday 7 November
Homecoming parade of twelve
floats, two bands, and club marchers
highlighted the day. Intramural
Football Championship Game between the Huns and Ramblers.
Score—Huns 26, Ramblers 7.
Alumni held a social hour, a dinner and dance on the Campus.
St. Ambrose and Marycrest Chorus
appeared with Tri-City Symphony
Orchestra in a pair of concerts.
Sunday 8 November
Closing Homecoming activities at
Marycrest.
Arthur J. Moore, Jr., 1940 graduate, named President of Alumni
Association.
Friday 13 November
Three day seminar on Latin
America sponsored by the Quad-
City Council of World Affairs.
Speakers were Dr. Arjibay Doreste,
Dr. Frank Tannenbaum and Dr.
Peter Gordon Snow. Prof. John Norton was moderator for the seminar.
Sunday 15 November
Kappa Delta Pi initiated eleven
members.
Tuesday 24 November
Thanksgiving vacation began.
The World Series annually brings a week-long lull to most studies. Above a group of Ambrosians try to coax their favorites to victory from the TV room of the Beehive. "Splendor in the Grass" (fall field day) featured relay games, races, tennis matches, a picnic dinner and a dance on October 10. Plans call for this to be an annual event.
