Surveys Determine Music Selection
The Constitution of the St. Ambrose radio station, KSAR, provides
for the student body: the means of
obtaining intelligent and useful information along with international,
national and campus news; an appreciation for worthwhile music and
entertainment in keeping with high
Christian ideals; an unifying spirit
for all Ambrosian activities in order
to strengthen school spirit; and the
means lor obtaining practical experience in the communication arts.
This past year KSAR boasted
forty members, including announcers, writers and a technical crew.
Claiming to be the most active organization on campus, KSAR has extended its broadcasting period to
six days a week, five\and one half
hours per day.
In addition to providing musical
entertainment, the radio broadcasts,
educational programs and interviews top talent that comes to the
Quint-City area.
On December 23, 1964, the radio
station received its license from i:he
Federal Communications Commission to operate as a short wave station. The short wave call number
is WAOKWA.
Future plans of the station include
expansion into the FM frequency,
in addition to the AM and short
wave.
Pictured above is the executive board of KSAR. They are, from left to right, Jack Santore,
secretary, Bernie Miralgia, program director, Louie LaPorta, business manager, Ken O'Brien,
general manager, Mike Breipohl, treasurer, Steve Stacy, news director, and Dave Steckel,
chief engineer. Not present were: Jim Dunn, sports director, Rick Stank, music director, and
Joe Krippel, sepcial events director.
John Demme, John Sullivan, and Al Matula prepare the records for airing on Twilight Time,
a favorite program on this Campus.
Mike Breiphol gives the "cue" to begin
the week's broadcast.
