3 Maycrest presents Mixer for Frosh in Social rooms of the school;
Enharmonic Club formed and officers selected.
5 Music Department provides music for Diocesan Holy Name Rally
at Municipal Stadium.
10-11 St. Ambrose is host at Marycrest to Iowa College Conference
on English before whom Catholic Pulitzer Prize poet Robert
Lowell speaks.
13 Pre-Legal Club formed and officers elected.
17 Sophomore Class sponsors Sweater Dance at LeClaire Gym.
20 Election of Homecoming Queen is staged by Student Council.
21 "Duke" Ellington, famous negro jazz-man, lectures on "Modern
Music" in Lewis Hall auditorium.
24 Student Council manages Homecoming Dance at Coliseum.
25 Council stages Homecoming Parade through downtown area
and pep rally at evening bonfire; Drama Club presents informal dance in LeClaire Gym after bonfire; Alumni dance at
Blackhawk Hotel.
26 Alumni Association meets at buffet luncheon on campus; Band
makes first appearance with formations at Homecoming Game
at Municipal Stadium.
27 Basketball practice starts.
29 Jocists begin campaign to boycott local theaters condoning
presentation of immoral movies.

1 All Saints Day
3-8 Mid-Semester Exams are held.
7 Chicago Club presents Sweater Dance at Marycrest; Music
Department stages student recital in Irish Village.
11 Wrestling team starts practice.
12 Results of 1947 Freshman Testing Program show St. Ambrose
Frosh near national average.
13 Dr. Vernon Nash, reknowned authority, lectures on "World
Government" in Lewis Hall auditorium; French Club elects
officers.
14 Station WSUI fetes St. Ambrose on "Salute the Colleges"
program.
15 Drama Club is host to Midwest Catholic Theater Conference
at Marycrest.
16-17 Drama Club stages "Bell for Adano" at Marycrset auditorium.
17 "Bell for Adano" principals interviewed over station WQUA by
Frank Brady, club prexy; Debate Club participates in "College
Forum" over station WHBF.
23 Choir sings at St. Mathias Church in Muscatine.
22 Music Department presents faculty recital in Ambrose Hall
auditorium.
24-26 Annual retreat is held with services in LeClaire Gym which
is converted into a chapel during the exercises.
26-30 Classes suspended for Thanksgiving Vacation.
December
1 Classes resume; Iowa T. B. Association gives free examinations
on campus with portable x-ray outfit.
3 Freshmen elect class officers.
5 Junior Class presents Fall Formal at Fort Armstrong Hotel.
7 Feast of St. Ambrose.
8 Feast of the Immaculate Conception.
9 Music Department presents St. Ambrose and Marycrest Choral
Clubs, Tri-City Aratorio Society, Cathedral boy choristers, and
St. Ambrose band and orchestra in Christmas Music Concert
at Masonic Auditorium.
11-12 State Prelimenary Discussion Program is held.
13 Naval Reserve exams given on campus.
14 French Club holds "tea" in faculty room of Ad building.
16 Student Council sponsors Sweater Dance at Danceland.
17 Sophomore Class presents Christmas party at St. Vincent
orphanage.
18 Christmas Review staged in Ambrose Hall auditorium.
20-Jan. 5 Classes suspended for Christmas vacation.
29 Chicago Club presents Student-Alumni Dance at LaSalle Hotel
in Chicago.
