This is a lithographic portrait of John Montgomery, the original owner of all land property found in the town of Oskaloosa, Iowa. In 1843, Montgomerey received the land patent from the U.S. government. Eventually, Montgomery sold the property off to various speculators by the end of the 1840's and 1850's.
