Title

Letter from Carver to Pammel, September 18, 1907

Description

Sept. 18, 1907
Dr. L. H. Pammel,
Botanical Deprt., Ames, Iowa.

My dear Dr. Pammel:
Please let me know if an incubator used for hatching chickens could be made use of for Bacteriological purposes, such as the growing of pathogenic organisms.
We have no gas with which to run a Bacteriological incubator, and it occurs to me that one used for hatching chickens might be substituted; although, I do not know enough about it to give reliable information.
We have had an epidemic of Typhoid fever this summer and it has been traced to two sources of our water supply. I have now something over 63 tests to make, and I have found some very interesting germs. I have found one that forms a curious fluted mass in an ordinary Sacchraine solution. I want to isolate it. Any information will be thankfully received. With kindest wishes to all, I beg to remain,
Yours very truly,
Geo. W. Carver
