Randy Matson of Texas A & M competes in the shot put. Matson won the Relays shot put in 1965 (63-11 1/4), 1966 (65-3 3/4) and 1967 (68 8 1/2). He also won the discus event at the Relays for those three years.
In 1964 Matson won a silver medal in the Olympics. In the 1968 Olympics he captured the gold medal. Matson was the first athlete to break the 70' barrier, and in 1967 he set his personal best (and a world record) with a toss of 71' 5 1/4.
