Description

Two [silkscreen?] prints incorporating catalog cards.
I couldn't not participate in this project. I spent two years as a graduate student at the University of Iowa's School of Library and Information Science. I never obtained a full-time library position, yet the program was instrumental in getting me to where I am today, an art professor in a small state university in Wisconsin. Let me explain. I arrived in Iowa City with the best of intentions: I had just completed a bachelor's degree at the University of Minnesota centered around printmaking and performance art (performance art!), and I felt I needed further training in something useful and meaningful to avoid dismal employment in a cubicle somewhere. I had spent most of my free time in public libraries from childhood on. I was, and still am, in awe of librarians. The library was my church. When I moved to Minneapolis as an 18-year-old to attend the U of M, I found that I had a branch of either the Hennepin or Ramsey County libraries to suit any mood. If I was going to put my 40 hours
