ST. AMBROSE 13 —ST. BENEDICT'S 23
After a two-week lay-off, St. Ambrose traveled to Atchison, Kansas on Nov. 16 and lost its season's finale, 23-13
to St. Benedict's undefeated eleven.
The Bees, anticipating a possible bowl bid, led 13-2 at the beginning of the fourth quarter, but a 21 point outburst
in the final period by the Ravens gave St. Ambrose its second defeat in eight games.
Bob Webb, ace St. Ambrose passer, gained 125 yards with 8 completions in 25 attempts, but the Bees' ground
attack slowed to only 57 yards. Two blocked punts, first for the Bees this season, also helped to prove their undoing.
The first one resulted in a safety in the first quarter. The second came with St. Ambrose leading, 13-9, and gave the
Ravens the touchdown that clinched the victory.
Our first TD came after Webb geared a 71 yard march with a 13 yard toss to Clint Westemeyer and a 30 yarder
to Joe DeSoto, and then sneaked over from the one. Our final score came after a 67 yard drive, DeSoto going over
for the tally — Dick Wood converting.
A bid to play in the Mineral Water Bowl at Excelsior Springs, Missouri, received prior to the Ambrose-Benedict
clash was later rejected by St. Ambrose officials because of injuries sustained in this contest.
Benedict's Dick Byard reaches the Bees' secondary for a short gain.
Raven's All-Conference quarterback Mark Flynn slowed by Roy
Owen and Bill Bohler.
