ST. AMBROSE 39 — OMAHA U. 7
St. Ambrose won its third victory in as many starts by defeating Omaha University, 39-7, in Municipal Stadium
on Oct. 5.
Combining a powerful running and passing attack with a defensive effort which held Omaha to a —15 yards
rushing, the Bees evened the series between the two schools at three games apiece. Joe DeSoto rushed for 60 yards.
Tom Nester carried for 51, Jerry Gerhart counted for 43, and Tom Healy contributed 46.
St. Ambrose scored its first touchdown after eight plays with Webb sneaking over from the one. Greg Sharko
converted. The Bees' other first period score came on a 19 yard pass from Webb to John Michalski. Sharko again
booted the extra point.
The $ees scored again with only seconds left in the half. Tom Nestor skirted from two yards out to end a drive
of 54 yards making the halftime score St. Ambrose 20, Omaha 7.
In the second half St. Ambrose took the opening kickoff and marched 79 yards in seven plays to score. The Bees
struck again in the middle of the third quarter on a six yard pass from Webb to Clint Westemeyer — Sharko again
converting.
The gridders from the Locust Street campus made their last touchdown on a one yard plunge by DeSoto —
climaxing a tremendous power display by the Bees.
Fine line play by the Bees' forward wall highlighted the Omaha contest.
