Golfi
Lettermen Brian Kneafsey and Bill Crowley,
plus freshman Bob Higgins are expected to form
the backbone of this year's Ambrose golf squad.
This should be one of the Bees' better links teams
of recent years.
The schedule:
Apr. 26 — Loras, here
Apr. 28 — Western Illinois, here
May 3 — Beloit, here
May 7 — Western Illinois, there
May 10 — Monmouth, here
May 17 — Loras, there
Left to right; Bob Higgins, Bill Crowley, Brian Kneafsey.
Track squad: front row, left to right, Jack Kososki, Joe DeSoto,
Dick Belezos, Gary Baker, Gene Goral, George Bias, Henry Simmons, and Mel Johnson. Bach row: coach Leo Kilfoy, Jim Mading,
Bob Kennedy, Jerry Hughes, Fred Boher, Jack Michalski, Roy Owens, Don McGinn, Gene Kostarz
This may well be the year when St Ambrose
track squad takes a long step toward reaching
a position on the same level with other Bee
athletics. Long a neglected sport here, track has
received a real shot in the arm this season under
the ambitious leadership of new coach Leo Kilfoy.
Vaulter Jerry Hughes, high jumper Fred Boher
and sprinter Mel Johnson are only a few of the
bright prospects on a very young and promising
team. Early drills were hampered by inclement
weather and by spring football practice. However, by late season, and in years to come,
Ambrosian track prospects should be definitely
''looking up."
