Description
All ten men in view as Bees pull their defense back in a hurry
to bolt fast-breaking
Western Illinois.
St. Ambrose was favored to win the playoffs
and advance to the Kansas City tournament.
However, first round opponent Wartburg put
a sudden end to all such hopes, 77-68. The
trip to Kansas City had been the season's goal
for coach Duax and his team, and this unexpected loss came as an especially bitter blow
for that reason. The game was tight till the
final moments when Wartburg drew away on
free throws. Jim Fay was able to play only
part of the time due to the effects of a case
of influenza; still, he led with 23 points. This
was truly a great disappointment for these
seniors to end their fine careers in such a
fashion. However, it should be remembered,
as has been pointed out already, that the play
Willy Malatestinic goes up with a difficult shot, despite the "friendly" band
on his shoulder. Cannady moves into rebounding position in game with Regis
