Description

spectacular floor play provided his teammates
with many good shots.
At this point Jim Fay began a rebounding
and scoring spree which truly made a shambles
of all opposition during the remainder of the
Bees' win streak. With 28 points and 27 rebounds he led the way to an 87-77 victory
over Parsons. Against Great Lakes he accounted for 34 points and cornered 21 rebounds. Ambrose won 83-71.
The season's peak was reached with the
100-73 win over Creighton. Once again it
was Fay who was the individual standout, as
he banged in 43 points for a school record.
His 20 baskets were also a school record for
field goals, and his points in this game were
enough to make him the highest scorer in
Ambrose history for an entire career, a record
which, of course, he broke with every subsequent basket for the rest of the season. His
point total finally reached 1605.
A much improved Iowa Wesleyan team
threw a scare into the Bees before falling
81-78. Next came Loras, and behind Fay's 32
point barrage the DuHawks succumbed 96-85.
The St. Ambrose win streak was brought
to an abrupt conclusion in a road game with
Quincy College. Although they completely
dominated board play, the Bees were unable
to score and suffered a resounding 83-68 setback. The following game, with Rockhurst,
was a different story. The Kansans were
stopped 86-70 as Bill Dart scored a personal
high of 25 points and scrappy Rich Brennan
gathered in 23 rebounds. The regular season
came to a close with a road game which Loras,
shooting 51%, won 68-64. The record thus
far was 15-8, good enough to earn a spot
in the four team NAIA regional playoff at
Cedar Rapids.
Just what we knew all along — Jim Fay head and shoulders above
Loras.
