Description

Jim Wolf defends against driving
Leatherneck in Quincy Invitational
final. Bob Cannady moves up from
the rear.
The nucleus of what were probably the
finest basketball teams ever to represent St
Ambrose College completed its collective career during the 1954-55 season, and although
the 15-9 record did not quite match highest
expectations, no apology is needed. A schedule of considerable difficulty and a liberal
sprinkling of untimely and unfortunate incidents quite readily explains the decline from
the previous year in terms of games won and
lost.
There is an old basketball maxim to the
effect that victories at home come a lot easier
than victories on the road. This did not deter
the Bees in the least from tackling the greater
portion of their schedule on foreign courts.
The season opened with a two game road
stand in Minnesota, where St Thomas was defeated 65-62, but St Mary's triumphed, 88-74.
First home opponent and victim was Parsons, 84-54, joined shortly by Iowa Wesleyan,
91-61. In the latter game, the Bees showed
remarkable 46% field goal accuracy.
Bill Dart goes high for jump shot in win over Lewis. Gil Peterson and Jim Wolf prepare to battle for the rebound
