Description

The Ambrosian
DAVIS HALL
"Davis Hall," the new college dormitory, will be ready for occupancy
in September of this year. This is the third of a series of projects calculated to increase the efficiency of St. Ambrose College. The training of
Professors for special work at the different universities of the country
will be continued; an Endowment Fund of a million dollars will enable
the College to make necessary and valuable additions to the library,
and to the physical, chemical, and biological laboratories; and now
"Davis Hall", made necessary to accommodate the increasing number
of students in the collegiate department, is rapidly nearing completion.
As a result of these improvements the Collegiate Department of St.
Ambrose has been accredited to the State University of Iowa, Iowa
State College of Ames, and Iowa State Normal College of Cedar Falls.
Official recognition of the work of the Junior College of St. Ambrose
was favorably passed upon by the members of the board representing
the three afore-mentioned institutions, at its meeting held at Iowa City
in January of this year.
In consequence of this official recognition on the part of these three
institutions of the State, St. Ambrose is now able to offer prospective
students work of a character that will train them for their entrance into
the professional courses of these or of similar institutions.
For all of these accomplishments we are indebted to our beloved
Bishop, The Right Reverend James Davis, D. D. As a token of appreciation for his inspiration and kindly interest in every endeavor,
aimed at the building up of a "Greater St. Ambrose", this latest addition to the group of College buildings that now adorn our campus has
been named "Davis Hall".
The new building, of Tudor-Gothic design, thoroughly modern and
up-to-date in every respect, anticipating the conveniences and requirements of the college dormitory of the future, will house one hundred
students, as well as the members of the Faculty of the College Department. Class rooms, recreation rooms, reading rooms, and reception
rooms will be furnished in the most practical and appropriate manner.
Student rooms are fitted out in the most approved manner, tending to
combine advantages that make for the maximum of comfort and study.
The completed building will be two hundred feet in length by an
average width of thirty-eight feet. It will be four stories in height with
basement.
