Title
1964 Yearbook
Description
For the 1964 Oaks An Epilouge
The OAKS staff remembers well the April, 1963, discussions on theme for this vdjmme. The decision to, make it
Hn anniversary edition had m be delayed untiL the cooperation was assured from the Ambrosians who edited and
managed Volumes I through XXIX* *After nineteen replies
a meeting to "firm-up" ideas was held. Ambrosian to Oaks
became the theme.
Students at St. Ambrose in 1913 felt the need to relate
the College to the world community through a yearbook, but
few could have realized the stature mass communications
would attain by 1964. Only the College catalog antedates
rthe yearbook. After publishing from 1913 through 1923 a
period of dormancy came, but a quarterly, using the same"
name, attempted to fill the void. Under the name OAKS,
volumes were published in 1940 and 1941. The students
were called to the world battlefields and again a break
came. Ambrosians are persistent men so when they returned
to student life publication resumed. Albeit the storms have
struck, this acorn's fruit has attained its seventeenth year.
Three forces have nurtured it; the students, the administration and the business enterprises of the community. The
staff sincerely hopes that they have produced a special
"coming of age" edition. Again we quote Chesterton,
"The pale leaf turns to yellow, the green
leaf turns to gold;
Those who have found it good to be young,
will find it good to be old."
