Title
1964 Yearbook
Description
Front row: Vern Hubka, David Mallie, Joe Dalton, Jerry Jordan. Back row: David
Killian, Ray Baladad, Bill Stier, Coach Ed Scheck.
Netmen Undefeated in 36 Matches
The bees, who won nine consecutive matches last spring, are the
finest athletic team, recordwise, to
have ever been produced at St.
Ambrose. They downed Dubuque
University 9-0 in the season's opener, and beat Eastern Illinois 7-2.
Coe College and MacMurray were
blanked 9-0.
The Bees continued their mastery
of tennis opponents by beating
Northern Illinois 9-0, and Marquette
by the same score. After that time
Bradley and previously undefeated
Loras were stopped 7-2. Our final
victory of the year came against
Quincy College.
This year's team will be without
the services of our one-two punch,
Gene McCabe and John Bloom, but
there is an ample amount of talent
returning. Ray Baladad from Chicago is near the twenty straight
victory mark. Dave Killian was undefeated for the year. Tom Cocagne
returns with a year's experience
under his belt. Summing it up, tennis
looks bright again at Saint Ambrose
College.
Ray Baladad, top man on the SAC team. Tom Cocagne loosens up for the '64 season.
Dave Killian demonstrates his backhand.
