Dr. John Moriarty of Lunex Company opened this year's activities of
the co-curricular program of Student Affiliates of the American
Chemical Society, with his lecture
on: "Yttrium and the Rare Earths—
Truly the Space Age Materials."
During the following weeks, four
stimulating field trips were taken
by the members: on November 9,
to Argonne National Laboratory,
Argonne, Illinois; on November 19,
to Rock Island Arsenal Laboratory,
Rock Island, Illinois; on March 16,
to Hiram Walker Distillery, Peoria,
Illinois; and on April 15, to the
Alcoa Plant, Davenport, Iowa. During the year other speakers were obtained from the Federal Food and
Drug Administration and Staley
Starch. Informative movies were
shown, and an Annual Banquet completed the activities.

ACS and AIP Visit Argonne National Laboratories
AMERICAN INSTITUTE OF PHYSICS
The St. Ambrose College Student
Section of the American Jnstitute of
Physics is an affiliate of the national
offices of the AIP. For those majoring in or interested in physics,
engineering, or mathematics, the
club offers membership, and its purpose is to advance and diffuse the
knowledge of physics and its application to human welfare. This
year the organization visited the
Argonne National Laboratory, Argonne, Illinois, and sponsored a
luncheon for Dr. Satoshi Matsus-
hima, Department of Astronomy,
State University of Iowa. Much of
the work done by the club this year
was aimed at the completion of a
radio-telescope.
