MR. GALLAGHER AND MR. SHEEHAN
(With apologies tomb it may concern.)
A one scene affair, containing one scene more than is necessary.
Gallagher enters. Vociferous music. Strolls lazily to center.
(To orchestra) : "Stop!"
Soft music. Gallagher (in loud voice): "Stop!"
Music ceases.
Gallagher: "At a tremendous cost Mr. Sheehan and I appear before you this
evening. I will begin, to start, to get ready, to commence, by asking your pardon. We
advertised this as our first public appearance west of the River. But it will be our
second. Our first appearance was this morning. We appeared before the magistrate.
That also was at a great cost, ten and costs, I believe. Our being taken into custody
was very unfortunate. It came about in this way. We had just sampled some Vermouth when they began to move the hotel. At this stage Sheehan and I grabbed our
hats, intending to take a walk until such time as they had the building settled in the
position they desired.
"It was a most unique village. The streets were crooked, the sidewalk slanted up,
the lamp-posts wiggled,—the wind must have been blowing pretty hard. Anyway we
picked out the straightest looking street and started to walk. Right on Third and
Bradly, poor Sheehan made the break that cost us our freedom. I guess that little
drink must have gone to his head (it didn't affect me a bit). There was a big, handsome policeman, standing on the corner. Before I could stop him Sheehan ran up to
