SOCIETY.
THE PEST
Noted Orator and Dramatist Gives Recital
AUDIENCE IS STUNNED
Feb. 31. Last evening, the students of St. Ambrose were treated to
an entertainment extraordinary. The artist who chastised us was
none other than Leonardo Schnoeball of Riverside Fame.
Mr. Snowball was at his best and treated his audience to a
dazzling assortment of Dramatic readings.
Not content with the havoc wrought, our artist plunged into
the depths of oratory and "rassled" "T'Oussaint L'Overture"
and Spartacus to the Gladiators" with extraordinary ability.
Overcome by emotions he retreated to his dressing room for
a "bracer", returning some minutes later with the tell tale symptoms
of his dissipation. His next best attempt was a medley reading
composed of all old favorites since the days of pocket flasks and
long skirts, ending in a blaze of hysterical grief. The climax,
accompanied by a spasmodic bombardment of fruit and
vegetables, occured when our versatile spell binder forssok
the legitimate and rendered in a nasal monotone that old
favorite "The Hosiery."
After the riot had been quelled, Snowball appeared and thanked
the audience for the warm reception rendered him and departed
immediately to parts unknown.
The members of the second floor have reason to feel proud of serveral
of the students residing thereon. For instance, our well known DeWitter,
who has hair like Brenard McFadden, has a physique that compares
favorably with that of well known Crane of Washington Irving
fame. He is a man in his own forceful way.
Then, we have another famous gent from the rural districts, who,
I have reason to believe, is deeply in love, because of his tendency to
acquire flowery vocabulary. Who remebers the night when a delgue
of snow fell upon him and he threatened to lick everyone who
participated in the attack? This man is one of the very prominent
students in Father Morrin's "Public Shreiking Class."
Our repertoire would not be complete without a word regarding the
fammed Hottentot. Mr. Timer assures me that his cap, which is
one of the extremely long billed variety, is looked upon as a time honored
relic among the old timers of the institution. Besides being a jockey,
this gent is also more or less of a weather prophet. The day hasn't as
yet arrived that reaches his expectations, and, consequently, he never
feels very well. However, his health is much improved by the
acquisition of a pair of tortoise shell glasses, which rest securely on
the bridge of his nose. The roomers on the floor are frequently
entertained by a song rendered in his own artistic way. His favorite
is, "Why Should I Cry Over You."
Taking it all in all, the second floor is a regular republic in itself. We
have art in Crowley, statesmanship in Sheehan, philosophy in
Schnoeblen, science in Jew Murphy, romance in Schwab, ability
in Pat Welsh, and ambition in the remainder of the inmates.
RAZZERS PROMINENT ORGANIZATION
One of the most powerful and influential societies in existence
at St. Ambrose College today is the Daily Dinner Club, a branch
of the National Federation of Royal Razzers. The chief aim of this
worhty club is to make a collge education an asset for every student,
in one way or another. If every member leave St. Ambrose, capable
of razzing everything and everybody to the Nth degree, his college
education had not been a failure--- Edison test statistics and the Rev.
Dean to the contrary nonwithstanding.
The charter members of the Daily Dinner Club are the "Dinner-Pailed"
day scholars who meet every day at noon in the southwest corner of
the basement of Davis Hall. The officers are eleated over the success
of the work over the organization and the great increase in member-
ship. It has been rumored that the old college building will be taken
over next year for a club house, but the National Board has yet to
examine the said building and approve of its capability of housing
such an organization.
Early last autumn the election of the officers took place and the
results were:
Biggest Razzberry-- G. Joseph Glynn.
Smaller Berry-- "Genie O'Donnell
Razzberry Seed-- Edward Leo Lew
There was keen competition for the office of Biggest Razzberry;
O'Donnell ran far ahead throughout the day, but Glynn finally succeeded
in razzing out of the office by the slim margin of one razz.
The Razz Boys compliment themselves on thier accomplishments of
the past years. They have been instrumental in doing away with free
days, baseball, dramatics, and gym dances. Other notable things
razzed were: Varsity, (football, basketball, and track), Crowley's hair
O'Donnell's "scoops", Babe Green's "dirty lip" side-burns, Lucier's
recitations, and more Varisty.
It is useless for us to go into detail regarding the underhanded
methods of the society. Let the Razzers themselves give you this
outline taken from their Constitution: "Unlike the Klu Klux Klan we
do not go about in the middle of the night (not much) covered
with sheets and pillow cases, but rather
